New Covid-19 Safety Measures For Construction.
Construction sites can operate at 50% capacity:
The NSW government has announced that unoccupied construction sites in Greater Sydney, Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour, can operate at 50 percent capacity from Wednesday 11th August 2021 in a move to help sustain the industry, and boost the economy. Along with the slight easing of restrictions, new COVID Safe measures will also be in place.
Some Good News For Workers From Hotspot LGAs:
The NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro announced that construction workers from Sydney’s hotspot LGAs will also be allowed to return to work if they meet new vaccination requirements.
This requires workers to have at least one dose of the vaccine or be fully vaccinated. If only one dose has been administered, workers will need to wait three weeks before returning to work OR provide a negative test from the previous 72 hours. Full details can be found here.
In the meantime, construction workers in the affected LGAs are urged to get their first vaccination shot if they have not already done so.
Welcome New Rules Regarding Renovations, Repairs, Maintenance, and Cleaning of Homes:
Work in occupied premises will be allowed to resume this week, providing there is zero contact between tradespeople and residents. There will be a limit of up to two workers for indoor premises and five for outdoors.
If the site is unoccupied, the one person per 4sqm rule will apply and COVID-19 safety plans need to be adhered to.
Details on the changes can be found at Master Builders Association NSW.
Let’s hope these new changes go some way to getting our industry back up and running again. It’s not an ideal situation, but it’s a start.
New announcements regarding the lockdown restrictions are coming daily, so we advise checking for updates regularly.
